Steelband Arrangements
Difficulty - Easy
This simplified arrangement was put together for my Band at W O Smith Music School. This classic is a great simple tune that I have simplified even more to be able to play with our super young students on Jumbie Jams. They had no reading experience beforehand and this allowed them to read easily and play along with the older students on the full band setup. As you will see, this is not a fully polished arrangement (I apologize for any notaFon flubs since this was not done on my normal soHware) where you can simply start at the beginning and play to the end. The goal here was to get the Melody + Harmony down on paper and call the form and solos out in real Fme. I also included a viable ending that could be changed as needed. You can really piecemeal it together however you would like by calling out repeats, solos, and the ending in real Fme.
There are parts for T, DS, G, B and Drums and there is an “Jumbie Jam” part. This was created for our younger students to read the note names in the note heads easily and the Tenor part gives the older kids get a bit meaFer version of the melody with some fills. For solos, I just gave them the notes for the G major scale and said to start there but feel free to explore past those notes when you want. Jumbie Jam players can play ANY notes since it’s in the key of G! I hope you and your band enjoy playing this tune!

Here is a quick arrangement I did of Not One Thing - Patrice Roberts. I was using a different notation software so please forgive the engraving! I can’t get ahold of anyone for a Permission to Arrange License for this so I’m just popping it up here as is for your use! I hope you enjoy!
Tenor, Double Seconds, Triple Guitar, Six Bass, Drums
Mingle Game Song: Round and Round - From Squid Games Season 2
This simple and effective arrangement was requested by my steelband and they loved digging into it. This is actually a Korean children’s folk tune originally but Squid Games utilized it in a very creepy sort of way in the Mingle Game. I hope your band enjoys it as much as we did!
Arranged for Steelband: Tenor, Double Seconds, Triple Guitar, Six Bass, Congas, and Drums
Difficulty: Advanced
The Sunken Cathedral is an Advanced arrangement for Steel Band. This solo work for piano was written by Claude Debussy in 1910 and is a prime example of Impressionistic Music. This arrangement captures the beauty and imagery of the original work while showcasing the depth and complex sound of a steel band. Showcase the depth of your bass section along with the expressive capabilities of each pan. Duration – 7 mins
This piece is on the Texas UIL PML - Grade 2 (Steel Band Category)

A Classic song to help ring in the New Year, Auld Lang Syne is a very recognizable tune that works well in this Calypso setting. This arrangement is short and sweet with a nice big tag ending to bring the party to a close. I hope you and your band enjoy this New Years Jam!

If you've never heard Jolly Old St. Nicholas as a Bossa Nova then you've been missing out! This short and sweet arrangement really sets the holiday mood rolling and should be a fairly quick learn for most intermediate+ bands. I hope this arrangement helps put some festive cheer in your band!
Difficulty: Beginner/Intermediate
Deck The Halls is a Christmas Classic and this Slow Swing arrangement sets the holiday spirit into motion. The Lower voices get some love in this arrangement too by taking the melody for awhile. This short and sweet tune gives you the chance to play it as it or offer solos around the band since everyone comps at various points. I hope this piece helps your band feel more and more festive as you play!

I Have a Little Dreidel goes by many names: The Dreidel Song, Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel, etc. Regardless of what you call it, this tune instantly brings the Hannukah season to mind! Set to a calypso groove, this piece moves. With interesting harmonies and a great rhythmic unison section, this is a great way to challenge your intermediate+ group while celebrating the Festival of Lights. I hope your band enjoys diving in!
Silent Night is a classic siciliana style song that brings the reason for the season to the forefront of everyone's mind. This no drums band arrangement sets a reflective mood but brings the drama and showcases the dynamics and color of the band. This is an easy to learn, tough to master type arrangement. The band could read the notes in minutes but you can take as much time as you'd like to evoke more emotion from the page. I hope this gives your audience an opportunity to witness the beauty of these instruments.
