Smoke Rise was inspired by the smoke rising in morning over the Smoky Mountains. The opening theme represents the rolling smoke over the hills while Letter D puts me in mind of the rises and falls of the mountains themselves. Grounded, Solid, and Undulating. This piece will challenge bands to read in 12/8 and balance the unison chord structures throughout. I hope you and your band enjoy painting this mental picture for your audience.
