Difficulty: Beginner
Little Big Eyes is a 3-minute Doo-Wop style piece in 6/8 time with some fresh new harmonies featuring diatonic tone clusters. The title comes from the idea of seeing things through the eyes of a child. Specifically my daughter’s eyes. Wide-eyed and wondering always!
There are only 3 distinct phrases of music to learn in this piece. This is a great way to work on the band’s understanding of 6/8 time. I would start with letter E to solidify the feel of the running 8th notes and then move back to letter A. If the Triple Guitars struggle without playing the downbeat...just let them play the downbeat. The feel is more important than the rhythmic accuracy here.
This piece is also available in the collection called “Another 6 Compositions for Early Steelband” and the “Early Steelband Jumpstart Pack”
