Difficulty: Beginner
In The Wind is a slow minor Calypso. This is a different feeling and sound than your average calypso piece but still feels familiar. The 3 sections feature some signature rhythms, cascading quarter notes through the band, and a simple yet catchy melody. As the C section progresses it utilizes a descending whole tone scale to build tension and circle back to the main melody.
In The Wind brings to mind a plastic bag that is being pushed and forced around by the wind. The C section really showcases the sounds of the swirling winds. The melody at the B section has many rises and falls to show the movement up and down in the wind.
This piece is also available in the collection called “6 Compositions for Early Steelband” and the “Early Steelband Jumpstart Pack”
