Castilian / Ram Goat Baptism

$37.00

Castilian / Ram Goat Baptism is an Advanced piece for Steel Band. This upbeat Venezuelan Festival tune is an opportunity to work on your bands chops while digging into the historic music of a unique culture. "Castilian" is a traditional castillian (Spainish Waltz). This particular castillian has only two sections where as most would have five sections. "Ram Goat Baptism" is a traditional paseo (two-step) which became a popular calypso in the 1940's. The lyrics speak of the Baptist culture and how they are sinning by sacrificing goats in the mangrove swamps. These two secular styles, Castillian and Paseo, are traditional Spainish dances and some of the earliest forms of Festival Music. They are both traditionally played by a string band inspired from Venezuela's string bands which included a fiddle, a quatro (ukelele like instrument), guitar, bass cello, and a flute.  Duration – 2.5 mins
